Field Service Engineer Boston, MA

Your Tasks:

The Field Service Engineer plans, schedules, coordinates and executes service assignments in the field at customer locations within a multi-state geographic region. Directly coordinates with and supports end user customers. Work is performed independently without onsite supervision or onsite technical support. Assignments include but are not limited to the installation, maintenance, validation, and diagnosis and repair of complex customer owned instrumentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct onsite service activities at customer locations throughout a multi-state geographic region. Services performed include repairs, installations, preventive maintenance, and various levels of validation services on complex scientific instrumentation.
  • Work independently without direct supervision or ready access to technical support in all cases.
  • Plan, prioritize and schedule jobs, including organizing travel, coordinating with customers and sales personnel, organizing parts, tools, and other materials to assure they are available at the job sites.
  • Complete various reports including service reports, validation reports, expense reports, inventory reports, and ad hoc reports as required.
  • Update various systems and databases.
  • Manage a parts inventory and a company sponsored expense account.
  • Ongoing and frequent travel required, including weekly overnight domestic and international travel.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of an associate degree in a technical or mechanical discipline, or equivalent Military Technical Training and a minimum of 2 years directly related experience servicing instruments of similar complexity in the field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be comfortable working with potentially bio-hazardous materials and be able to travel a minimum of 50%.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, evidence of insurance / insurability, and ability to receive appropriate clearance to access restricted government accounts.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee is required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds alone or up to 80 pounds dual lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have ability to handle more than one task at a time and must work at a rapid pace while maintaining attention to detail.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This job is performed in a variety of facilities. This person will have an office environment for about half of the work performance, which is temperature controlled. This job requires the person to be mobile to visit customer sites. Due to the travel requirements, this position may be exposed to natural elements of nature. Used research/clinical equipment may be handled in this job and strict SOPs and PPE must be worn.
